Thanks for coming back to me, and that is a fair thing to ask.
What we sell are manufacturer direct bags in this style, made by the same kind of manufacturer that produces for well known retailers. Penelope is simply the name we have given this particular style in our own range, which is why you would not find that name used anywhere else. Buying direct from the manufacturer and cutting out the usual middlemen is exactly how we are able to offer it at this price, and that saving is in the supply chain rather than in the materials or the make, so the quality does not go backwards.
To be fully transparent with you, we are not an authorised Longchamp retailer, so this is not being sold as an authentic Longchamp product. It is a beautifully made bag in the same classic style, with the leather trim and detailing described on the listing.

Could you send me a link to the exact listing you are looking at (or the product name)? Once I have that I can confirm exactly which measurement the length refers to, the top handle drop or the body of the bag itself, so you can be sure before ordering.

For the Penelope Large Le Pliage Tote in Terra, the dimensions on the listing are 46 cm wide x 31 cm high x 31 cm deep, and those figures are measured at the base of the bag. So the length you are asking about (the 46 cm width) refers to the bottom of the bag rather than the top opening.
The handles are separate from that and have a drop of about 25 cm (9.8 in), so there is comfortable room to carry it over the shoulder or in the hand.
The listing gives the base footprint rather than a separate measurement for the top opening, so I would not want to quote you an exact figure for the opening itself, but you can see everything we hold on the product page here:
